Old Course

St Andrews Links

The Old Course is the historic home of golf and the benchmark by which all others are measured. Dating back to the 1500s, it has defined how the game is played today and continues to host The Open Championship.

The course is known for its wide fairways, enormous double greens and iconic features such as the Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker. The experience is as much about atmosphere and history as it is about the golf itself.

How to play the Old Course
There are essentially two ways to secure a tee time on the Old Course:

Old Course Ballot (lottery)
The most common option for visitors. We register you in advance, and the ballot determines whether you receive a tee time.
– Lower cost
– No guarantee
– Best suited if you are flexible

Chances via the Old Course Ballot:
Chances vary throughout the season. Typically best in April and October, while May–September is peak season with lower probability. Flexibility with dates significantly increases your chances.

Guaranteed tee time in a package
The most predictable option. Tee times are secured through our partners in St Andrews.
– Guaranteed play
– Limited availability
– Best suited for planned trips

Pricing:
A guaranteed tee time on the Old Course requires a golf package with a significant surcharge depending on season, availability and package structure.

What should you choose?
– Want to keep costs down – Old Course Ballot
– Want certainty to play – Guaranteed tee time
– Travelling in peak season – Guaranteed tee time recommended
